Salary: £25,012 pro-rata
Contract Type: Fixed-term for 12 months (continuation subject to further funding)
PMF is a registered charity that specialises in meeting the needs of BME communities in Preston. The charity supports people of all ages and backgrounds and provides facilities in the interest of economic and social welfare to improve their life conditions.
The purpose of this role is to recruit and train volunteers to provide support across the organisation. The postholder will also ensure that volunteers are valued and supported, and that their experience is inclusive and accessible.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds to support delivery across all aspects of the charity.
- Liaise with project staff to match volunteers with suitable opportunities that suit their skill set, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and receive appropriate training.
- Keep and manage records of volunteers' information, including tracking and evaluating their work.
- Develop and maintain links with external agencies/partners to ensure up-to-date signposting and referral systems to support volunteers with additional needs.
- Promote and market projects using various channels of communication, including social media.
- Work effectively as part of a team, actively supporting other team members, while also being selfmotivated to work on own initiative and without direct supervision.
- Act as line manager from time to time for individual volunteers supporting PMF projects.
- Attend staff meetings, supervision meetings, and staff training.
- Actively encourage service user involvement and participation in co-design and evaluation.
- Undertake any other duties as requested by the Line Manager, appropriate to the job.
Other Requirements
- Some evening and weekend working will be expected in line with the nature of the job, for which TOIL can be taken.
- The post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and evidence that you are entitled to work in the UK.
Person Specification
Desirable Degree or relevant qualification in the field.
Essential Experience of working in a voluntary organisation or community-based projects. Experience of volunteer/activities coordination and working with a wide range of people.
Desirable Experience of supervising or line-managing staff or volunteers.
Essential Experience or confidence delivering induction, training, or briefing sessions for volunteers or new starters.
Essential Ability to maintain accurate volunteer records and monitor and evaluate volunteer activity and impact.
Essential Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. Knowledge of, or ability to develop, referral and signposting pathways to support volunteers with additional needs.
Essential Knowledge and understanding of relevant equal opportunities issues, particularly barriers to participation for certain sections of the community and how these might be addressed.
Desirable Experience of involving service users or beneficiaries in co-design or evaluation of services.
Essential Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including writing reports. Ability to use MS Office and social media.
Essential Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise. Ability to understand and follow procedures. Kindness, patience and compassion.
Desirable Awareness of safeguarding principles as they relate to supporting and supervising volunteers.
